Action Video Games or Adventure Games
and corresponding
hybrids is one of the most prolific genres in the video games world.
Therefore, gamerisms provides a separate area for this genre to include
5 game titles, descriptive reviews and an introduction for gamers.

Pure action video games or adventure games are more about the journey
and
dealing with the world than it is about combat. There may be a few
videogames with minor combat elements, however for the most part, these
video games are
a call to action
to solve a puzzle within the game
setting more than anything else. There may be a mystery to solve or a
crisis to survive.
While a hardcore soldier, police officer, or marine might be able to
pick up a weapon and defend them selves readily, the main character in
these videogames is an untrained civilian. This forces them to think
critically instead of going in guns-a-blazing, because whatever crisis
exists might just eat them otherwise.
Note: at gamerisms, both the
terms gamers and gamerz are used when referring to players.
1) Heavy Rain
This video game title is genuine adventure gaming at its eye-popping
finest. The
story for this game revolves around the mystery of the origami
killer. This individual murders children and your character seeks to
discover their identity. Outside of clunky controls and the fact that
many people have had this video game's content spoiled due to research
throughout the net, this adventure game provides something that most
action video games do not. It provides gamers an interesting murder
mystery that focuses on detective work instead of shooting the enemy.
2) Amnesia: The Dark Descent
This adventure gem of action video games features a main protagonist
known as
Daniel. He awakens in a dark castle with little to no memory about who
he is or previous events. He explores the area, all the while dealing
with random elements and the puzzle of his strange existence there. He
has no access to weapons and his only means of defense in this video
game is running, hiding or plot point actions. Is this mystery enough
for passionate gamers?
3) Doctor Who: The Adventure Games
Episode 1 - City of the Daleks
Doctor Who gamers have been clamoring for any sort of video game
devoted to the exploits of their favorite time traveler for decades
now.
They finally get their wish granted with the release of this
series, in which Episode 1 - City of the Daleks is the first
installment. These action video games include the modern version of the
series and features a wide assortment of moments that will make Doctor
Who fans happy, even if some minor control issues and lack of character
development for the only other living human on the planet may deter
less die-hard fans.
Either way, these video games do exist and gamerz
that have longed to be a part of a Doctor Who episode can now do so.
4) Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
Special Edition
This remake of an adventure games classic from the Lucas Arts studios
features many updated concepts, HD graphics, and a better control
scheme. All of the wacky humor and the astonishing art of the original
returns with a master's brush stroke.
A brief overview of the main characters and locales visited for these
action games are: Guybrush Threepwood, the wannabe pirate and Elaine
Marley who both share the
video game settings of Scabb Island, Phatt Island, Booty Island, and
Dinky Island.
The soundtrack has been expanded as well to include robust and hearty
versions of the original musical scores. For adventure gamer purists,
there is also the ability to play the classic version of the video game
along
with the full voice acting of the new versions.
5) Urban Runner
This video game places the player into the role of Max, an American
Journalist currently in Paris. These action video games begin by having
Max
enter a sauna in an attempt to blackmail drug dealer, Tony Marcos in an
attempt to get an exclusive story. However, his would-be lead has been
murdered and is laying there. Max attempts to leave but Marcos's
bodyguards mistake him for the killer. This is the opening for this
adventure videogame thriller. The theme of the game combined with its
visuals and control scheme make it seem like the player is moving
through a cheesy B-movie thriller from the sixties. The interesting
setting for this entry into action video games should be reason enough
for
gamers to take notice.
