This First Person Shooter Games review
at gamerisms has been updated and now
includes a description of shooter games for seven titles: Devil May
Cry,
Left 4 Dead 2, Rainbow 6, Half Life, Crysis 1 & 2 and Bulletstorm
for passionate gamers.

First person shooter games consist of combat scenarios wherein the
gamer shares the character's point of view and sees the virtual world
of the game through the character's eyes. While, a third person shooter
video game offers a perspective where the gamer views the character
from
behind, 3/4 overhead, or all around.
The variations in game play
are the gamerz perspectives within the 3D environment of the game.
There are many more similarities than differences. For example, a true
shooting game must have an arsenal ranging from lightweight firearms to
heavy artillery.
First person shooter games or shooting games are
popular due to their visceral quality and overall immersion levels.
There is no doubt that this first-person perspective allows avid gamerz
to become so engrossed in a game that they lose all track of time.
Shooter
games were introduced back in the days of Wolfenstein on the PC, which
in turn met its perfect match in those early days with the cult classic
video game Doom. When Doom first hit store shelves, a shockwave ran
throughout the gaming community. Gamers or gamerz would spend countless
hours blasting the evil alien denizens that had taken on the demonic
aspects of humanity's worst fears. Despite the primitive graphics,
there were very few college age individuals that did not spend many
long nights grinding away at the hoard of evil with their BFG's.
Here are seven first person shooter games to explore:
1) Left 4 Dead 2
What
could be a more natural combination than a FPS game and zombies?
Picking up where the original Left 4 Dead left off, this is a non-stop
scare-a-thon of zombie killing goodness as the cast of characters try
to survive a zombie infestation. Unfortunately, these first person
shooter games are only available on the Xbox 360 and the PC.
PlayStation
3 owners are left in the cold. With several interesting multiplayer
games included, this one won't get old anytime soon.
2) Devil May Cry
Another
great action adventure shooter game that gamerz enjoy is Devil May Cry.
There are four releases now. Packed with action, gamers move quickly
from one boss to the next to the next. There are guns, swords and more
weapons that you can imagine. Passionate gamers are fighting all the
demons that
walk the earth, and even half demons-half humans. This is the classic
good versus evil type of video game, with all the shooting you could
want.
3) Rainbow Six
Tom
Clancy's Rainbow Six is a first person shooter video game title where
gamerz try to stop
terrorist plots. This shooter game is all about tactics and learning
the game play before moving forward to deal with terrorists, hostages
and Rainbow operatives.
There may not be as much gun play with this
title compared to other videogames, but a briefing and selecting
operatives
beforehand will prepare you for the mission.
There is plenty of action to come utilizing the soldier's tools of
weapons, body armor, grenades and camouflage.
4) Half Life 1 & 2
First person shooter games in this science fiction series pit Gordon
Freeman, a
physicist at the Black Mesa Research Facility against an alien invasion
on Xen.
Originally,
Freeman wipes out the alien leader, but upon a second attack, the
Marines are dispatched commanded by Corporal Adrian Shephard.
As
this shooter game and action continues, a new enemy in Combine and
characters are introduced including Black Mesa survivors, Eli Vance and
daughter Alyx, Isaac Kleiner and Barney Calhoun. Carried over from Half
Life 1 is G-Man, the strange blue-suited character.
Rated highly
by passionate gamers, both these first person shooter games feature
rich graphics
and
multiplayer mode. Short loading times move the action from one section
to the other with ease.
5) Crysis
Crysis is a science fiction series of first person shooter games that
introduces a
group of military

protagonists with nanosuits. These suits are high-tech protective gear
that allows gamers to develop extra physical strength, speed, defense,
and cloaking attributes. Good vs evil, be it North Korean soldiers or
aliens.
Some of the good guy characters are Nomad=Jake Dunn, a
member of Raptor Team, Psycho=Michael Sykes, a member of
Raptor
Team, Prophet=Laurence Barnes, leader of Raptor Team, Helena Rosenthal,
a scientist and Sean O'Neill, good character in Warhead and a friend of
Psycho's.
The enemy or Boss of this video game is Colonel Lee, one of the
leaders of the North Korean army in Warhead title.
The popularity of these videogames is recognized by the high ranking
received online by satisfied gamerz. The second edition follows with
Crysis 2.
6) Crysis 2
Crysis 2 is all about first person shooter games at its finest. It is
considered one of the best, if not the best, visual experiences in
shooter based first person videogames to date.
The storyline behind Crysis 2 involves the Ceph and the Mercenaries of
Crynet. The Ceph are interested in conquering the world as per the
usual. However, the Crynet mercenaries want to get a hold of the suit
that the main character is tooling around in. Presumably it's due to
the fact that it technically belongs to the company they work for.
The Ceph are invertebrate aliens who use power suits in order to
conquer. They come in many varieties from foot soldiers to towering
devastators.
This game focuses on high-end tactical weaponry, a nanosuit capable of
providing extraordinary physical capacity, and various types of enemies
to face off against as with the original title. Unlike many first
person shooter games that try to insert a somewhat chaotic artificial
intelligence into their death dealing onscreen robotic destroyers, in
Crysis 2 the Ceph and the mercenaries are designed to be challenging
and entertaining.
7) Bulletstorm
This video game, one of the Xbox 360 first person shooter games is a
unique gamer experience in that you can rack up kill points while
disregarding the laws of physics.
This video game features a great deal of toilet humor, over-the-top
kills, and mildly repetitive action. There is a plot in place, but the
primary purpose of the game is to kill things in rapid order through
ultra-violent actions. There is little in the way of cover from enemy
fire. However, if the way that the titular character mows through
enemies in a flurry of disturbing and hilariously named combos is taken
into consideration, there really is no need for it.
The story concept takes place in a future era that is rife with civil
war cliches. However, most of the action takes place on a planet known
as Stygia. The main character of the story, Grayson, has to get his
group away from the inhospitable world. While the premise is not
incredibly original, it is fresh enough that the action that comes
along with it more than makes up for any of the stale concepts. If you
want to choose one of the mindless first person shooter games that
provide a decent plot and a truly amazing world setting to
happy-murder-kill your way through, then Bulletstorm is the way to go.
There
is a plethora of first person shooter games available for any given
game console.
Gamerz with PS3 or X-Box, Wii, PC, MAC, or some other space age
obscurity will find a shooter game for them.
Note: at gamerisms, both the
terms gamers and gamerz are used when referring to players.
