Racing games at gamerisms
offers five video game titles and reviews for this genre.

Passionate gamers who like these videogames come from all walks of
life:
young gamerz not old enough to actually drive, single guys &
gals,
dads who are too smart to actually drive like that anymore, and even
grandparents have been known to get into the action. Racing titles run
the gamut from realistic driving SIM=simulation video games to bang em'
up
demolition derby arcade games, and even multiplayer games. Whatever the
taste of the gamers, there is a racing game selection for him or her.
1) Need for Speed: Shift
When
racing games are mentioned, many gamerz immediately think of the Need
for Speed franchise. Shift is one of the video games for this super
popular franchise and takes it into unfamiliar territory. This racer
takes place on a track, and is more of a racing simulation, rather than
a street racing SIM that is a long time Need for Speed staple.
2) Gran Turismo 5
If
any racing games franchise surpasses the Need for Speed franchise in
the
hearts of gamerz, it's Gran Turismo. Main features include over 950
cars, 20 course locations with 70 layouts, and a new physics engine
with roll over, damage, and the ability for players to carry over
unlocked cars. The fifth video game installment is due out soon. After
several
bumps in release dates, fans are beginning to wonder if this racer will
ever see the light of day.
3) Forza Motorsport 3
Microsoft's
video game entry into the racing arena is gaining fans with every
release. The
delay in Gran Turismo is giving Forza a chance to win over fans to not
only their franchise but also gaining converts from the PS3 to the XBox
360. These racing games include over 400 customizable cars from 50
manufacturers and over 100 racetrack variations. Additionally, upgrades
from Motorsport 2 are in-car driving view; one button assisted driving,
vehicle rollover with detailed undercarriages and real-simulation
drifting. These highly customized multiplayer videogames are also
incredibly
addictive.
4) Dirt 2
If
you are talking off road racing at its finest, then the PC Dirt 2 is
the way to go in the racing games world. Taking the race off the road,
but not in a cartoon like manner like Mario Cart, this takes racing in
a direction different from any of the other videogames mentioned.
Gamers
will discover four continents and these event types: Raid, Trailblazer,
Rally, Land Rush and Rallycross. Though, this an off road rally based
video game, the rally races only make up about a third of the game.
This will
disappoint die-hard rally race gamerz, but will appeal to regular race
fans.
5) Mario Cart Wii
And now for something completely different for the racing games genre!
Mario
Cart is a racer that not only gains the hearts of die-hard racing
gamerz, but also goes after everyone. Appealing to ages from 5 to 95,
the newest video game incarnation of Mario Cart is gaining huge
momentum. With a
control scheme that is unique thanks to the Wii's incredible Wiimote
system, the gamer is able to hold a wireless wheel in the air that
controls the cart on screen. Mario Cart Wii also includes a few
different multiplayer videogames for endless replay value. This is
definitely not a realistic simulation game, its pure arcade fun.
Note: at gamerisms, both the
terms gamers and gamerz are used when referring to players.
